Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of QueryRight (the "Service"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. Acceptance of these terms

These Terms form a binding agreement between you and QueryRight. If you're using the Service on behalf of an agency or organization, you're confirming you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use QueryRight. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements and that the information you provide is accurate.

3. What QueryRight is (and isn't)

QueryRight is a matching and research tool for authors seeking literary agents, and a discovery tool for literary agents reviewing author pitches. QueryRight is not a literary agency, a publisher, a law firm, or a party to any representation agreement between an author and an agent. We don't submit queries on your behalf, vet the professional judgment of any agent, or guarantee representation, publication, sale, or any other outcome. Match results are generated by a deterministic, rule-based process — see our Privacy Policy, Section 13 — and are informational only, not professional, legal, or financial advice.

4. Accounts

You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you submit, including manuscript details and, for agent accounts, your professional identity. Agent accounts are subject to manual verification before gaining full access to the Pitch Board and Find Authors tools. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately at hello@queryright.com if you suspect unauthorized use.

5. Agent profiles & sourced data

Some agent profiles on QueryRight are compiled from publicly available sources rather than created directly by the agent. We make reasonable efforts to keep this information accurate and current, but publishing preferences and submission status change frequently and we can't guarantee that every sourced detail is up to date at any given moment. Always verify critical details — especially open/closed query status and submission guidelines — directly with the agency before submitting materials. Any agent may claim their profile, request corrections, or request removal at any time by contacting hello@queryright.com.

6. Your content & our license to it

You retain ownership of everything you submit — manuscript details, pitch text, profile information, and messages ("Your Content"). By submitting Your Content, you grant QueryRight a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, process, and display it solely as necessary to operate the Service (for example, generating your matches or showing your live pitch to verified agents). We won't use Your Content for marketing or any purpose outside operating the Service without your separate consent.

7. Pitch Board visibility

If you set a pitch to "live," its headline, pitch text, and book details become visible to verified agents browsing the Pitch Board. You control this — you can set a pitch back to draft or paused at any time, which removes it from agent view going forward.

8. Messaging & conduct between users

You're solely responsible for the content of messages you send and for your conduct toward other users. QueryRight is not a party to, and is not liable for, communications or agreements between authors and agents. Report abusive or suspicious behavior to hello@queryright.com.

9. Author comments & reply-time statistics

What these features are

Authors who have logged a query to an agent in My Queries may post a written comment about that experience. Comments appear on the agent's profile without the author's name. Reply-time statistics are calculated from dates that authors log, are shown as medians, and appear only once enough authors have logged queries to that agent.

Rules for comments

A comment must:

  • Be truthful and based on your own first-hand experience of querying that agent
  • Stick to professional conduct in the query process, such as response times, communication, and clarity of process
  • Not allege criminal or illegal conduct, and not contain personal attacks, harassment, or discriminatory content
  • Not include private information about any person, or any email address, link, or other contact detail (our system blocks emails and links)

Your responsibility and license

You own your comments and are solely responsible for them. You grant QueryRight a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and moderate them for as long as they remain on the Service, and for a reasonable period afterward in backups and records. You can edit or delete your own comments at any time.

Not our statements

Comments and reply-time statistics reflect the individual experiences and self-reported dates of authors. QueryRight does not verify, endorse, or adopt them, and they are not statements of fact by QueryRight. They may be incomplete or unrepresentative, so please don't rely on them as the only basis for any decision.

Moderation

We may, but are not obliged to, review comments. We may hide, restore, or permanently remove any comment, or exclude any query from the statistics, at our discretion and without notice, including after a report. We do not rewrite comments: a comment is either shown as the author wrote it or hidden.

Reporting and requests for review

Anyone, including an agent named in a comment, can ask us to review it. Signed-in authors can use the Report button. Everyone else can email hello@queryright.com with a link to the comment and an explanation of what is inaccurate or breaks these Terms. We aim to review reports promptly and may hide a comment while we do. Agents have the right to ask for review, but not a right to have accurate or honestly held first-hand accounts removed because they are unfavorable.

Anonymity has limits

Comments are shown without names, but each one is linked to the account that posted it, and our administrators can see that link for moderation. We may disclose the identity of a commenter if required by law or valid legal process, or where needed to resolve a claim about a comment. See our Privacy Policy.

10. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Misrepresent yourself as a literary agent, agency, or author if you aren't one
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the agent or author database in whole or in part
  • Use the Service to harass, spam, or solicit unrelated services from other users
  • Request or attempt to collect reading fees, upfront payments, or similar charges from authors as a condition of representation — legitimate literary agents don't charge authors to consider or represent their work, and doing so through QueryRight is grounds for immediate termination
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or create multiple accounts to evade restrictions
  • Upload malicious code or attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service
  • Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service outside normal browser use
  • Violate any applicable law or the intellectual property rights of others
  • Post comments that are false, defamatory, or not based on your own first-hand experience, or post a comment about an agent you did not query (see Section 9)
  • Post, edit, or withdraw a comment in exchange for payment, favors, or any other benefit, or at the request of an agent, agency, or competitor

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.

11. Fees & future paid features

QueryRight is currently free to use. We may introduce paid features or subscription tiers in the future. If we do, we'll give you advance notice before any change that affects you, and we won't charge you without your clear, affirmative consent at the time.

12. Intellectual property

The QueryRight name, logo, website, software, and the compiled structure of our agent database are owned by QueryRight and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms don't grant you any right to use our branding or underlying platform outside of normal use of the Service.

13. Third-party services

Our Comp Lister feature retrieves comparable-title suggestions from third-party book databases (Google Books, the New York Times Bestseller Lists, and Open Library). These services are operated independently of QueryRight, and we aren't responsible for their accuracy, availability, or terms.

14. Termination

You may ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing hello@queryright.com. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. On termination, your right to use the Service ends, though provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive (including Sections 9, 12, 15, 16, 17, and 18) will continue to apply.

15. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or accuracy of content — including agent profile data, author comments, and reply-time statistics, which may be sourced or self-reported and is not independently verified beyond our stated research process. We don't warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

16. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, QueryRight won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or publishing opportunities, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) USD $100.

17. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold QueryRight harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, Your Content (including any comment you post), or your violation of these Terms.

18. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Pakistan, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Before filing any formal claim, you agree to first contact us at hello@queryright.com so we can attempt to resolve the issue informally. Any dispute that can't be resolved informally will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Pakistan.

19. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page, and, where appropriate, we'll notify you directly. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

20. Miscellaneous

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. Our failure to enforce any provision isn't a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and QueryRight regarding the Service.
